Jelenetfotó 1.3Very old Bunjevac dresses and traditional samples of cloths could be a guide to their origins, and to the old country they came from. Comparison of fabrics, embroidery and its names lead us to the very same roots of Bunjevac and other Croatian people. Today we cannot find to much textile from the past. Mainly dresses and bad linen were in so called STAFIR, the staff witch girl brought with her into new house when she get married. Usually girls started with making this dresses and linen many years before marriage, with great help of hers mothers and grandmothers. And all of this textile they made should be enough for the rest of the life. Not so many years ago, in many Bunjevac homes, especially on farms, there were spinning wheels, spindles and looms. Trough the history that was exclusively women’s labour, very demanding and time consuming, but at the same time very creative. Fabrics were made from three base sources: wool, cotton and flax. This documentary film follows all steps, from preparing row materials to the finished fabrics and embroidery on it, in the environment of country side on old farmhouses, and how we are keeping this legacy today.
