The Old Year is dead, Long live the New Year! January 13, the "Old Style" New Year's Eve, Bishca village isolated on the shoulders of the Oriental Carpaths, inhabited by gypsy musicians belonging to the Ursari (bear trainers) Rroma group. During the Winter Holidays according to the New Style (Gregorian) calendar, they travel around the region emphasizing their musical skills. Now they are home rejoicing into the beginning of the New Year, with no other alternative but to switch their New Year celebration according to the Old Style (Julian) calendar. Coincident celebrations of life and death are passing by each other with irreverent ingenuity. This visual approach tries to run an inquiring eye over the Bishca villagers' joy to feast and to be alive on the occasion represented by the “calendar” mark of time's death and rebirth.
