Sos' means to play, kantat to sing, and toncat to dance. That's how they say in the eastern region of Istria, in the Labin Area know as Labinština. The local traditional folk music and dances festival of Labinske konti has been ongoing there for the last 40 years. Thanks to it, and the diligent work of the locals and the folklore ensembles, the music and dance heritage of the Labin Area is still very much alive. These folklore festivals are only one of the promoters of the tradition – it also lives in private parties, performances for the tourists and even at funerals. This documentary programme introduces us to people of all ages – who care for, maintain and develop that tradition and heritage – in different ways and for different reasons. However, in any case, it is undoubtedly clear that through their commitment the heritage and the tradition in the Labin Area are still very much in.
