Jelenetfotó 4.4A knoledge trip trough Bahia’s bogs, the search for a lost father and for the identity of a post-colonial country. Mestre Pedro plays the berimbao and paints walls in the Baixa do sapateiro. For the last thirty years he has protected the ancient San Miguel market along with his dog Bondongo. Mestre de capoeira stops teaching because of a foot accident and he devoutes himself to art pray. Through his paintings and his poems we discover a kaleidoscopic, Bahia, that is a fronteer to the Next World, todays full of a traffic that hides the modds and the consequences of a colonial Eden. At the verge between the world of growing poverty and glamorous carrnivals, we hear of the humble roots of Pedro and the adventures of the Yoruba people, whose links with Africa where harshly interrupted. After a long trip through Bahia’s bay, Pedro comes back the places of his childhood and goes in search of his father: an almost blind old ‘Uncle Tom’ that lives alone in a hut by the sea. The old man doesnt’t immediately recognise the voice of his son, which he believed dead. But, when he hears the music of the berimbao, he starts singing along an old song dedicated to mother Earth. The two has not seen each other for more than twenty years, many things have happened in the oblivion. The travel comes to an end. When Pedro is going back to Sao Miguel market, a young pregnant girl shows up saying she is his doughter-in-law. Pedro pays his respect: ‘Holy Mother Mary’. And he says farewell and gets to his market.
