Tsabutzoglu Jorge

Son of a Greek father and a Spanish mother, Jorge Tsabutzoglu was born in Malaga in 1975. He’s a graduate in Primary Education and Educational Psycology, and therefore he set out on his audiovsual trajectory in a self-taught manner With his first short-film “Despecho” (Spite), made without yet any links with the audiovisual sector, he became finalist in the local competition Certamen Sala 2 Dos Hermanas 2003, which helped him as a learning expereince and gained him his first profesional contacts in the sector. He opted for the documentary format in his second project Buscando un Respiro (Searching for a Breather), for which he got financing from Instituto Andaluz de la Juventud, and with which he partcipated in various renowned festivals such as the 30th Huelva’s Iberoamerican Cinema Festival, the 12th Cataluna’s International Festival of Cinema and Environment, and the III Sobrarbe’s Ethnographic Documentary Festival (Huesca). He then founded his own production company and started to combine the duties of a screenwriter, director and executive producer. As a matter of fact, his documentary Pueblos sin Camino (Towns without Road) was produced by Aragon’s successful production company Nanuk PA, whose staff he met in The Festival of Espiello where he took the project to present it in search for financing. He has recently directed the short film “La última boda” - The last Wedding (35mm, 2009), with subsidy from the Consejeria de Cultura de la Junta de Andalucia and produced by Lemendu Films, company winner of several international awards for short films like ““El censor” and “Hombres de paja”.
