Anya Bernstein is an anthropologist and documentary filmmaker. Having never left her native Russia prior to the age of 17, she then emmigrated to the United States. Since then, sparked by her burgeoning fascination with cultural difference, she has visited over 35 countries. She has worked and studied in Russia, France, the United States, and the U.K., and has spent extensive periods of time traversing both North and South Asia for her ethnographic fieldwork and films. Anya holds an MA in Visual Anthropology from the University of Manchester and a BS in Linguistics from Georgetown University. She is currently conducting her doctoral research in cultural anthropology at New York University.
