Description of the content At the begining of the year 1957 Kádár closed the borders between Hungary and Austria. There was no more possible to escape to the West. The only possibility to leave Hungary was the direction of Yugoslavia. The stream of the refugies arrived in january 1957 and they were so many that Yugoslavia could not solve their problem alone. In this critical situation the western countries and the UN proposed help. After october 1956 19880 hungarians passed the borders of Yugoslavia. 2700 of them turned back, 500 of them settled down there. The rest went further to the west, some of them to the other side of Earth. Our film shows peoples who left Hungary through Yugoslavia and also people who helped the refugees.
