Description of the content With thorough investigation and through admiration for the untold stories, Mundi Romani, a documentary series co-produced by the Romedia Foundation and Duna Television Hungary, explores the amazing world of the Roma from Kosovo to Spain through Romania, France, Macedonia or Israel. The 14th episode of the series was shot in August and September 2008 in Italy, where the November 2007 murder of an Italian woman by a Roma immigrant has sparked an unprecedented wave of anti-Romani hate speech, xenophobic policies and racially motivated violence against Roma reminiscent of the darkest days in European history. As Katalin Bársony reports, authorities and subjects of their policies, human rights activists, key religious figures and simple people, the young and the old all share their stories and views as the Mundi Romani crew travels from the explosive atmosphere of Naples in the Italian south to northern Italy through the capital, Rome. We get to hear the personal tales of those who had to flee the former Yugoslavia to survive the war as well as those of EU citizens fleeing the misery of the life Romania offers to its Roma minority and the testimonies of the Italian Sinti Roma, who have lived in Italy for at least five centuries. Three communities, three different histories. It is isolation and fear which make their fates so similar.
